You may remember that last year I wrote about Susan Boyle, who had performed I Dreamed A Dream on Britain's Got Talent and went on to release what looks like the biggest album of 2009, globally.
Well, there's another star worth considering, Emma Czikai, who, The Daily Mail reports, is suing the show and has lodged a claim under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995.
Says Emma:
'This story is the truth behind the joke. They made one big joke out of me. They put it on the YouTube and sold it in 30 countries. The whole world is saying:
'This stupid woman's a laugh.'''
What do you think?
"'People cry when they hear me sing.' I agree."

"Emma you are pathetic , you can't sing, just give it up."

"...Britain, please don't let her come to Australia, we got enough fuck-wits out here as it is, keep her there please."

"Never mind the appalling voice, why did she think it would be a good idea to show practically all of her saggy, middle-aged breasts?
Eughhh."
Eughhh."

"Can I sue her for hurting my ears?

"Poor Amanda...she always jumps when Simon buzzes." (Watch the hands!)

These shows are ethically questionable. You would not get away with the possible psyhological effects on people if you were using the same disregard when conducting a piece of psychological/sociological research. I cringe at the hunger of the general public for the humiliation of others. Bring back the stocks!
Saying that, I don't believe she has a case, she knew what she was letting herself in for and probably signed some disclaimer. I wouldn't support her.
I would however, support the general case that these shows should never be aired. Let people with talent perform and enter the competition but let there be some sort of screening process whereby those who are obviously making a spectacle of themselves are not shown to the general public (on TV). It just feeds something that is rather sore and nasty in our society.
Well said, especially "Bring back the stocks!" - the phrase has re-entered my lexicon.
Still, she is a ninny, don't you think?
