Surfin' The Google Wave

I have to admit, though I'd heard about it, I had little idea of just how powerful Google's new application Google Wave, now being tested by 100,000 nerds around the world, would be.

Essentially, it's the prototype (is that the word?) for bringing the whole communication world:
  • mobile phones
  • Twitter
  • Blogs
  • email
  • youtube
  • social media
into one massive, amorphous thing.

This 10 minute video is an ugly cut-down of Google's 80 minute presentation but it provides you with enough nuts and bolts to work out where Google Wave is going. Check it out.

Kseniya Simonova: Amazing Sand Animation

One of this blog's occasional commentators over at www.mangosteenjuicetestimonials.com,
who I also keep tags on via Facebook posted this video yesterday and it really is a beauty!

While I've seen all sorts of weird painters - BBQ Sauce, Tomato Sauce, Vegemite, Peanut Butter - all of which have greatly impressed me, none have come close to Kseniya Simonova, who depicts the German invasion of the Ukraine in 1942 - in sand animation.

Together with a chilling and moving soundscape / score, her appearance on Ukraine's Got Talent makes every contestant I've ever seen in similar shows look shabby.

Ms. Simonova's talent is obvious but the staging is both simple and grand at the same time, fitting for the teary audience, who recall the stories of that time, when probably 25% of the population were killed.

Astonishing, absolutely astonishing.

FYI, The Guardian published a lovely piece on her, which is worth checking out.

"Simonova looks like some vengeful Old Testament deity as she destroys then recreates her scenes - with deft strokes, sprinkles and sweeps she keeps the narrative going. She moves the judges to tears as she subtitles the final scene 'you are always near'."

On a pervy note, she's damn cute, too!

Sarkozy: Right Wing Hippy

Anyone who accepted this brief bio on present French President Nicolas Sarkozy (from 2006 when he was a minister) would have to agree, Sarkozy is no normal conservative. Winning the presidency in 2007:
and is now calling for a reappraisal of how we, in the west, measure wealth. He's now attacked "GDP fetishism" and is suggesting that we seriously evaluate "Quality Of Life", instead.

Does that make Sarkozy the first Western Hippy leader?

Peace!

Fabulous Green Energy Advertisement

Take 1 part Shrek, 1 part troll from Harry Potter, add a dash of cutesy-pie hippy soundtrack and you have the most incredible (and expensive!) ad. for a power company that I've ever seen!

An Apology

My goodness, how Time flies when you're having fun - or not!

I've been caught up in a work-related tussle for a couple of weeks and have to admit, I've been a little remiss in the blogging game. Apologies but Life comes first.

Hope this mess is over soon!
